Gay "Marriage" Vote in California
Jeff was the first to draw my attention to this latest installment of the nation-wide battle against this abomination. I counted that state as already lost, until I read this article from TIME.com. At stake on Nov. 4 is Proposition 8, which aims to ban gay "marriage" in California. Voters already approved such a measure in 2000, but a recent California Supreme Court ruling struck down that law, forcing conservatives to put the issue up to the voters again. Recent polls show that public opinion is split about 50/50. If you live in California, I urge you to vote YES on Proposition 8!
Anyway, here's a scary peek at the strategy of the pro-gay groups. As you probably know, they've been winning crucial court decisions in several states, while losing at the voting booths, by wide margins. Read what one of their main activists has to say in the article:
Kristina Wilfore, executive director of the Washington-based Ballot Initiative Strategy Center, an advocacy organization that specializes in using ballot initiatives to further liberal causes, says her group picks its battles in fighting anti-gay-marriage amendments largely because most votes aren't even close. "We would never bring gay marriage up before the voters," she says. "This is [our opponents'] strategy." She admits they've been terribly good at it.
In other words, these groups are bent on imposing their secular progressive agenda on a population that largely disagrees with their views! They want the select few (themselves and the judiciary) to force their will on the majority of the populace. But I thought this was a democracy!
But wait! There's a little more:
Wilfore says she's prepared to take the long view in California. "I am not going to be discouraged if we lose," she says. Victory will come over time in the courts, as demographics works its influence on the nation's voting patterns, she says, noting that young people support gay marriage far more than their parents and grandparents do. "A lot of people are going to have to die" before Election Day is an easy day for gay marriage, she says.
I know this isn't what she meant, but she is basically implying that those who oppose government sponsorship of the abominable sin of sodomy should die... and the sooner the better.
We need to stand together and united against the amoral, vocal minority in our country, which desires to remove God from all aspects of our daily lives, starting with laws that make it harder and harder to live the Christian life.

You have hit on one of the disturbing realities in our society. We the people are rapidly losing our voice in our country to activist judges usurping the legislature and the will of those who elect them to represent us. This is very much in danger of getting worse. It may have serious consequences for Christians eventually.

I believe it will, too, Larry. I often feel like we're on the Titanic, and we're trying to get at many folks on the Liferaft, before it all goes down, and Lord returns.
To all, my intent is not to use this blog for political purposes, but I am keenly interested in issues of morality. So, you'll see stuff like this once in a blue moon.

I have to agree with Larry. I don't like to come across doom and gloom but America is spiraling downward very quickly.. This next election is critical.
A part of me says stand-up, speak-up and that i do. And I will make my voice heard Nov. 4th. But at the same time it seems to me that the Word of God is being fulfilled. Sin will wax worse.
We Christians have been praying Your Kingdom Come and Your will be done Lord. But in order for His Kingdom to reign in this earth The prophecies of God's Word must be fullfilled. I sense in my spirit that Ranks are filing suit and the battle is about to begin.

Amen, I am seeing things today I heard predicted in church 30 years ago and thirty years ago I couldn't imagine how it could come about.
But it is funny, the more chaotic our world becomes, the more I feel a growing peace inside. I feel a mix of anger, pity and sadness for the world, yet I don't have any personal feelings of fear.
I haven't talked about this with anyone, i wonder how you all see todays events and what you sense?

Now, I will add to your post, that McDonald's corp. was a member of the Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce until The American Family Association boycotted them and won.
The homosexual Vice President (I believe he was vice president) resigned his chair at the GLCC recently. I did not eat at McDonald's for five months! As soon as I heard the news, I went in and ordered and iced tee.
Man...and I just purchased a iMac! :-)
I look at our society and I see how morally bankrupt we are, but I don't blame the homosexuals or the proponents of "gay marriage" or even the activist judges; they are simply living out the depravity that marks them. They are simply being true to their "nature" as those who continue to seek their autonomy; they are "enemies of God" as we used to be.
I blame...myself...and all professing Christians who are not actively sharing the Gospel. The problem is not "wrong policies", it's unregenerate hearts. If we don't like what's happening in our country, why don't we stop trying to "fix" the government and start sharing the Gospel so that God can fix people's "heart".
I'm not directing this at anyone here. I'm just thinking about the many conversations I've had with my father about things like this. He continues to complain about things and thinks that if we had particular person in office, or if this particular bill would pass, or if this Senator were replaced, or if...whatever!
People are who they are! If they are unregenerate, they will think that way and act that way. If they are (truly) regenerate, they will think that way and act that way. If we have a problem with the moral compass of our country, it's because the people of this country are largely unregenerate--it's not the fault of the "government", it's the fault of all of us for not seeking the lost.
Sorry for the rant. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but really...are we doing what we've been called to do? We haven't been called to political activism, we've been called to "make disciples of Christ". If we made as much an effort to share the gospel as we've made in trying to change our government we may not be having all this angst.
I hope I haven't offended anyone here. I'm speaking to myself as much as anyone.
BTW--I'm going to keep my iMac and enjoy it...that is, if I can learn the thing! :-)
Dead-on, GGM! As a government that is led by "we, the people", "as the hand that rocks the cradle, so goes the nation". Or, as the heart goes, so goes that same nation!
But also, I think you realize the playing field is not level. Never before have we possessed so many means of disseminating news and entertainment to so many people, so quickly. But at the same time, it is those same unregenerate folks that are doing the dissemination. We allow ourselves and our kids to be influenced by the immoral few. This is why it's so important for parents to fulfill their Biblical mandate, and teach their children in the way they should go.
I look at the root cause as sin. The sin is “my will” over God’s will. All the other ills of our society grow out of this disobedience.
In my opinion I have some responsibilities as a Christian.
One, of course, is to be obedient to God and I pray the Holy Spirit will uphold me in my struggle to be obedient. I know I have a commission to relate the Gospel and pray those who hear it in their ears will also hear it in their heart. I can only go so far as telling it and praying, I cannot actually save anyone.
As to those saved, I have a duty to disciple, as do those who are saved and mature have a duty to disciple me.
But that does not mean that I divorce myself from speaking out on what goes on politically or socially in the world around me. That first step toward repentance is to recognize one has something to repent. Being silent gives tacit approval. The danger is when we let ourselves lock in too much on the sin we forget the sinner. There will not be a change in behavior, exactly as GGM states, until there is a change in the heart. And salvation for anyone or a nation is not going to come from any politician, but through God. Jesus, the Lord, is the only lord I follow.
From what I understand, the world is not going to get better. It is going to get worse, so bad indeed, even the believer can be in danger of doubting. All through the Bible God has used nations to fulfill His plan. Many times God used those of complete depravity to achieve His ends. And God often punished nations that had been in His heart when their hearts grew cold to Him.
I feel today I am watching God at work aligning all his Word has promised. It is not a time to fear, but a time to become even more energized in spreading the Gospel. I think in days ahead doing this may become difficult, even risky, and when that happens the Gospel will be spread with even more fervor.
